We were paying $340 a month in summer. Our neighbors went solar two years ago and kept saying we should look into it. We finally did. I wish we'd done it three years earlier — the math is just obvious once you see it.

What happens on cloudy days?

Your panels still produce 10–25% of their rated power on overcast days — enough to offset a meaningful chunk of your bill. Germany, one of the cloudiest countries in the world, is also one of the largest solar markets on Earth.

Do I need a new roof first?

If your roof has 10+ years of life left, you're usually fine. We do a free roof condition check as part of every assessment. If you do need work, we can coordinate with roofing partners and often bundle the costs into a single financing package.

Our ovens run from 4 AM to noon. The electric bill was eating our margins. The 30% tax credit made it a no-brainer — we recouped the cost in five and a half years and now that's pure savings. It's like a raise we gave ourselves.

How does the tax credit actually work?

The federal Investment Tax Credit (ITC) lets you deduct 30% of your total install cost directly from your federal tax bill — not your refund, your actual tax liability. On a $24,000 system, that's $7,200 back. Most homeowners claim it the April after install.

We heard about solar at a dinner party and honestly thought it was for younger people, or richer people. Our installer sat at the kitchen table and just showed us the numbers. Our Social Security check goes a lot further now. We should have done this years ago.
